The
lesson dept at U-Drum is under the direction of drummer/percussionist Dave
Simpson. Dave is one of the most experienced teachers in the area and we are
excited to have him as part of the team. He studied jazz performance at Mohawk
College, and Classical percussion at the University of Toronto. As a
percussionist, Dave has performed with several orchestras including: the
Hamilton Philharmonic, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra in Toronto, and Symphony
Hamilton. He also played vibes & marimba in several DCI Drum corps including the
Phantom Regiment. This summer Dave will be playing free concerts on Vibraphone
for the Hamilton downtown BIA.

As a drummer, Dave is an in-demand session musician for Jazz, Pop/Rock, and
music theatre groups. After spending 3yrs in Toronto performing in Second City’s
production of Toni & Tina’s wedding, Dave joined a few Hamilton cover/original
bands including: The Relics, The Bridge, and Trinity Road. You can also see Dave
every Wednesday night at the Cat & Fiddle as a member of the house band for jazz
jam night.
The most important thing about Dave is his commitment to teaching drums &
percussion. After teaching private lessons seriously for 12yrs he has just
published an instructional book for beginners based this experience. “Modern
Drumset Techniques- a complete and musical approach to learning the drums” will
be available Sept 2011. He also has collected a great deal of other material
that can be used to tailor a program unique to each student.
Dave & Paul provide U-Drum with a 1,2 punch of drum knowledge that just can’t be
matched. Please feel free to come down and talk to them about their favourite
